About this Opportunity

Picton Terminals is seeking a dedicated and skilled Captain – Master 150 GT to join our team. The Master 150 GT is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel, ensuring compliance with all statutory and company regulations. This role combines leadership, seamanship, and operational oversight, requiring the ability to work alongside a small crew on a variety of tasks while maintaining a high standard of safety and vessel performance.

 

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Working to the fullest of your qualifications aboard the vessel.
  • Operate the vessel to the fullest extent of your qualifications, including navigation, watchkeeping, and vessel handling.
  • Perform and assist with routine tasks aboard the vessel, including mooring, cleaning, maintenance, and other deck duties as required.
  • Ensure all crew and equipment operate in a safe manner, actively promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Adapt duties to meet the needs of each project or voyage.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and legislative requirements governing vessel operations.
  • Implement and enforce company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Motivate and guide crew in observing company policies and operational standards.
  • Issue clear and effective orders, maintaining authority and communication with crew at all times.
  • Maintain the navigational watch and manage vessel operations to ensure safe and efficient voyages.
  • Oversee communications between the vessel, company, and other parties as required.
  • Ensure the stability and watertight integrity of the vessel and any tows are maintained for the duration of the voyage.
  • Optimize vessel efficiency, including fuel usage and operational costs.
  • Approve vessel orders for supplies, provisions, and spare parts prior to submission to head office.
  • Manage crew performance, conduct evaluations, and provide mentorship and training as needed.
  • Ensure the daily completion and accuracy of the vessel Preventative Maintenance System (PMS).
  •  Commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

 

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Valid Transport Canada Certificate of Competency – Master 150 Domestic GT (minimum).
  • Valid marine medical certificate and MED certification.
  • Proven experience in tug and/or barge operations.
  • Strong general seamanship knowledge and hands-on deck experience.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of managing a small crew effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.
  • Requirement to work irregular hours, including weekends, holiday and extended voyages.

About this Opportunity

Picton Terminals is seeking a dedicated and skilled Chief Mate to join our team. The Chief Mate serves as the second-in-command aboard the Sheri Lynn S and Amy Lynn D tugboats and reports directly to the Master. The Chief Mate is responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient management of the deck department, cargo operations, vessel stability, safety compliance, and crew supervision.


In the absence or incapacitation of the Master, the Chief Mate assumes full command of the vessel.

 

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Lead all cargo operations including loading/unloading, ballasting, tank cleaning, and gas freeing as required.

  • Ensure safe carriage of cargo and maintain vessel stability, stress, and trim.

  • Maintain accurate cargo and sounding records in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

  • Stand navigational watch as required.

  • Deputize for the Master and assume command when required.

  • Supervise, mentor, and assess deck officers and crew.

  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with SMS and statutory requirements.

  • Act as Safety Officer (if required), investigating incidents and implementing corrective actions.

  • Oversee deck, hull, superstructure, and equipment maintenance.

  • Ensure lifting gear, cranes, and winches are inspected, certified, and maintained.

  • Maintain accurate operational, safety, and compliance documentation.

  • Ensure vessel spaces are clean, safe, and inspection-ready at all times.


Qualifications/Experience:

  • Watchkeeping Mate, Near Coastal Certificate required.

  • Valid marine medical and STCW/ MED certifications.

  • Tug/barge handling experience preferred.

  • Experience in Great Lakes, East Coast, and Arctic regions preferred.

Picton Terminals is seeking a dedicated and skilled Chief Engineer to join our team. The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading the engineering department aboard our Sheri Lynn S and Amy Lynn D tugboats and barge operations. The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe, economical, and efficient operation and maintenance of all vessel machinery and equipment while ensuring full regulatory compliance.


Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Oversee all engineering department personnel and daily operations.
  • Ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of main engines and auxiliary systems.
  • Plan and supervise preventative maintenance programs and continuous survey requirements (Transport Canada & Class).
  • Maintain all required records and documentation, including Oil Record Book Part II and machinery logs.
  • Manage bunkering operations, fuel/lubricant inventory, and pollution prevention measures.
  • Monitor fuel consumption and implement efficiency measures where possible.
  • Troubleshoot and respond promptly to mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Supervise repairs and coordinate with shore-based technical support and contractors as required.
  • Ensure engineers are trained, competent, and capable of manual engine operation if required.
  • Maintain technical manuals, drawings, and machinery documentation in proper order.
  • Conduct regular engine room inspections, soundings, and safety checks.
  • Lead emergency preparedness drills related to machinery and engineering systems.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety management systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Report hazards promptly and promote a strong onboard safety culture.


Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum 3rd Class Motor Certificate (2nd Class, preferred)

  • Valid marine medical and STCW/ MED certifications.

  • Valid Canadian Passport and ability to enter the U.S.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience preferred.

  • Experience working with CAT (Caterpillar) machinery preferred.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.

About this Opportunity

The Building Operations Technician works closely with and supports the Head of Building Operations in maintaining the appearance, functionality, safety, and long-term value of ABNA's portfolio of distinctive commercial and mixed-use properties, including many architecturally and historically significant buildings. As a key on-site representative of ABNA, the Building Operations Technician responds promptly to tenant requests as assigned, takes pride in delivering quality workmanship, and helps preserve the character, integrity, and professional appearance of the Company's properties.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Building Operations Technician will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Represent ABNA professionally when interacting with tenants, contractors, suppliers, and members of the public.
  • Perform general building maintenance and repairs, and the initial diagnosis of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing maintenance and service requests.
  • Complete preventative maintenance to ensure buildings, building systems, equipment, and common areas remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.
  • Conduct routine inspections of building systems, equipment, and exterior areas, and proactively identify maintenance deficiencies, safety hazards, or repair needs.
  • Prepare vacant suites for new tenants, including repairs, touch-ups, minor improvements, and other required services. 
  • Complete tenant improvement projects, suite renovations, office reconfigurations, and other property improvement projects. 
  • Contribute to preserving the character, quality, and long-term value of ABNA’s properties.   
  • Coordinate with contractors and service providers, monitor the progress and quality of their work, and report deficiencies, safety concerns, and project updates to the Head of Building Operations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, preventative maintenance activities, and maintenance supply inventories.   
  • Assist with seasonal property maintenance activities, including snow removal, ice control, lawn care, landscaping, exterior inspections, and general exterior upkeep, as required.   
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Company policies and procedures, health and safety requirements, and applicable legislation.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe tools, equipment, workspaces, and work areas.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to emergency maintenance requests outside regular business hours, as required.      
  • Travel regularly between Company properties to complete maintenance and inspections and respond to tenant requests.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, property operations, construction, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience performing general repairs, including carpentry, painting, drywall, flooring, basic plumbing repairs, and mechanical troubleshooting, is required.
  • Experience with customer service and communicating directly with tenants, clients, or members of the public is preferred.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license, or an equivalent license recognized in Ontario, is required.
